The animation aims to provide the viewer with a bird-eye view of melting over Greenland over the past 40 years.
The number of birds within each flock is proportional to melting and so is the size of each flock.
Each element corresponds to the total summer melting over the Greenland ice sheet between 1981 and 2020.
Each row represents a decade (1980s , 1990s, 2000s and 2010s) and the columns are the years ranging from 1 to 10. For example, the element in the second row and second column corresponds to the year 1992. (See Image at the bottom for an explanation).
The viewer can, therefore, extract the quantitative information of melting while the pulsating effect can be connected to the breathing of the viewer while providing a pleasant visual and chromatic experience
